Party List Quotas
Following a pledge made in December 2019, in May 2020 President Tokayev signed an order which establishes the obligatory introduction of a 30% quota for women and young people under the age of 29 to be included in political party registration lists.
The quota system ensures the active participation of all members of Kazakhstan’s society and will incentivise previously overlooked demographics to gain active representation at the local and national level.
